this is the 2nd time i have shoot sofya- only had 3 hours to do it as she was due to get the train to her grannies at 5. She is bound for NYC on sunday for a month. She was asking me if its is as crazy as moscow. I suppose that depends on what i determine to be “crazy”. Drunken nights at dime bars, 24/7 deliveries- roof top parties in Brooklyn!! It was crazy for me, but im sure she wont see that side of the city till she gets a lil older. Have fun dude!

spring is coming. You can actually walk around outside for longer than 5 minutes without freezing your balls off! There is a park in moscow called Gorky park which is a few minutes walk from where i live, apparently during the communist era they used to place loud speakers all though-out the park and broadcast speeches made by leaders like Stalin & Lenin. Inside is a theme park which closes in winter. Its a strange feeling cruising around a empty theme park- could have stayed for hours if it wasn’t for the deceptive puddles of foot high freezing water.
a girl can have a few names in russia. Maria, Mary & Marsha- all gets very confusing for me. She is all three!

ive never shot on film before i came to moscow.. starting photography in the digital age you can sometimes feel quite ignorant- its almost like you have no respect for how it used to be done! its easy to buy a $500 camera, smash a CF card in and away you go- your a photographer! After a purchase of a soviet union camera (zenit et) at a local market for $15 bucks i thought i would give it a go! My old boss and photography mentor (Nick Scott) always used to talk about the feelings of waiting for a film to be developed and the excitement that would have to be endured before your saw your results- he always used to push me to shoot on film saying it would make me a better photographer and after 3 years in the professional game i now understand what he was talking about! Thanks pal, im glad you taught me everything you knew & and im happy i listened!
The pure determination in some of these young girls surprises me. A 40 hour round trip for a casting that lasted 5 minutes.

I cant for the life of me rember this girls name as her english was not the best- and my talent at actually prouncing russian names is poor- she kind of reminds me of a young adrian lima- big lips- light eyes.

i have never seen such opulence underground.. its the 2nd most used transit system after toyko’s… even the stray dog’s of moscow have learnt how to use the subways as a means of survival..

a blind punk i meet at a market in Bangkok- the people around him where excited that i had a Polaroid camera and once he found out he requested i took another one for him- its strange knowing i’ve taken a photo of someone who will never see it… and im not sure if he knows whats hanging off his neck either!
i first meet kat when she was 16 years old, whilst living in singapore. i always shot kat whenever im in town-A exotic mix of thai and irish, Kat has been living and working in bangkok for the last year. Her eyes hold a special type of maturity- something you dont find in too often in girls living in bangkok- a city teeming with temptation.
never been too good at shooting sunrises- mainly because im still asleep by the time its up unless its been a big night partying! this is not the case here! after a jetlag induce sleep, a long walk along a fuckin muddy beach i got this little sucker.. today is a brand new day..
meet mimi- mimi meet the internet.. mimi was discovered by a friend of mine whilst swimming down at bondi beach. Its always a hard task to walk up to younger girls as a photographer in the fear of coming off like a weirdo- mimi hopes to grow some more- a heart breaker in the making.
paid this guy $5 bucks to clean my mates window just so i could get a shot! he didnt mind so much when i mentioned it was for personal use. He mentioned that there was a doco being made about him… interesting
one of my best mates dan.. he is obsessed with cars- this is the 1955 Porsche Spyder- the same type of car James Dean died in at high speeds. A sic weapon of machinery.
